Asle and Thea

Over the weekend we stayed with our friends Asle and Thea in Sandefjord, Norway. The first night we got in pretty late so we had pasta with fresh salmon for dinner and went to bed. The next morning we woke up and hung around the house for a while. We had a Norwegian breakfast with mackerel, salmon, smoked trout, liver paste (ICK!), cheese, bread, jams and jellies, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. It was yummy. Then around noon, we went to the beach. We made 4 crab fishing lines made of string and clothespins. we put snails on it and threw them in. Over three hours we were amazed to capture 53 crabs! We didn’t eat them because they were too small to eat. By this time we went to explore the town. We saw an old Viking burial mound. It was super cool to see that he was buried with a ship, animals, and other treasures. We got ice cream and went to the house. For dinner, we had heart shaped waffles with jam, butter, sour cream, and sugar which is a Norwegian tradition. For late dinner, we had Norwegian cheeses and crackers and bread. The next morning we had another late start. We decided to go to an old WWII German fort on the sea. There were many walls, trenches, and bunkers. We only caught three crabs but they were bigger than any we caught the day before. We did not swim this day because there were LOTS of jelly fish. We explored the town more and went back for fresh shrimp for dinner, sleep, and an early train tomorrow. Thank you Asle and Thea for showing us life in a small town in Norway. It was fun!

Sounds fun. Were all the jellies the same kind? I would love to see the Viking burial site and the jellies I find them fascinating. Buen Viaje!

Very wise not to swim with jellyfish!
